Inspired by a verse from the Bible, 'they devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, the breaking of bread and to prayer,' it was decided to have a new devotional programme on Tuesday evenings (Tuesdays Together) with an emphasis on teaching, fellowship and prayer – and perhaps the occasional service of Holy Communion. More recently a programme for Tuesday evenings has been drawn up. There is still time to become involved in organising one of these evenings – 'Tuesday Teaching' (a Bible study group); Tuesday Praying (a group for prayer); 'Explore Together' (an interactive way of looking at the Bible together) and 2B1 (a time of fellowship, singing and learning new songs).
Matthew begins his book by showing how Jesus Christ was a descendant of David. Matthew goes on to show Jesus was sent by God to be a heavenly king, not an earthly king. His kingdom would be much greater than David’s because it would never end. No previous knowledge is expected or required and the evening will include some discussion in small groups as we seek to learn and to apply the Bible’s message.
Tuesday Reflections and Prayers
Reflections and Prayers is a time when people can come together to pray for things or people who concern them. We will reflect on the needs of the world, Great Britain and Paignton and on how these needs can affect us, as we offer them to God. No one will be expected to speak or pray aloud unless they wish to do so. The emphasis will be on quiet informality and a friendly, peaceful atmosphere.
We are able to hear God’s voice in a way that embraces our natural preferences, through seeing, hearing, chatting, reading, reflecting and doing. We look at a Bible passage and encourage one another by sharing our thoughts, questions and insights with each other. No previous knowledge is required, just an open mind.
2B1 – The place 2B!
'I want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and you are one with me. I also want them to be one with us. Then the people of this world will believe that you sent me.' (John 20 :21) 2B1 is a place to meet, pray, chat and sing the Lord’s praises, to eat good cakes and relax together.
There is time for people to give notices from their church, or to share something from their own life, good or bad. Anyone is welcome to speak or pray or share, but no-one is ever put on the spot or made to feel uncomfortable. By the time we finish, at around 9.15pm, our hope is that those who made the effort to come out of their home to join us will be glad that they did!
